ABOUT THE STUDY

What is this study about?
The purpose of the study is to understand better patient’s experiences accessing abortion care in Ottawa after February 1, 2017. We hope that the findings from this study will help to increase abortion access across the country.

Who can participate?
Anyone who has had an abortion in Ottawa on or after February 1, 2017 and is sufficiently fluent in English or French to answer interview questions is eligible to participate in this study.

What is involved in participation?
If you are interested in taking part in the study, please reach out to the Study Coordinator via email at ws-stu02@uottawa.ca. We will ask you a few short questions to ensure you are eligible, answer any questions that you may have, and set up a time for the interview. We will schedule the interview at a mutually convenient time, and this can include evenings and weekends. All interviews will be conducted over the phone or on Skype.

We expect the interviews to last between 60 and 90 minutes. With your permission, the interview will be audio recorded and the interviewer will take notes. During that interview you will be asked a series of questions about your background, your reproductive health history, and the circumstances surrounding the pregnancy that was terminated. We will also ask you to tell us about your experience obtaining an abortion in Ottawa and we will ask you to tell us about ways in which you think that services could be improved.

Participation in this study is completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to participate and if you choose to participate, you can withdraw from the study at any time and/or refuse to answer any questions, without suffering any negative consequences.

All participants will receive a $40 gift card to Amazon.ca as a thank you for their time.
